October 4, 2026, MARKHAM, ON — The Markham and East York Agricultural Society is seeking the public's assistance in locating a Holland Lop rabbit that was stolen from the Pet and Poultry Building at the 182nd Markham Fair on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Biscuit, the rabbit, was taken from its enclosure in the Pet and Poultry Building on the Markham Fairgrounds at 10801 McCowan Road, Markham, sometime during the evening Fair hours on October 3. The theft was discovered by volunteers and exhibitors who notified officials immediately.

"We are deeply disappointed that someone would take an animal from the Fair entered by a 10-year-old girl," said a spokesperson for the Markham and East York Agricultural Society. "These animals are cared for by exhibitors who invest significant time, effort, and care into raising them. This is not just a loss of property. It is the theft of a living animal that requires proper care, housing, and attention. Our animals are a member of our Fair family."

The Markham and East York Agricultural Society is working closely with York Regional Police, who are investigating the incident. Fair officials continue to investigate.

The Holland Lop is a small rabbit breed known for its distinctive lopped ears and compact, rounded body. Members of the public who may have witnessed suspicious activity near the Pet and Poultry Building on October 3, or who have information about the rabbit's whereabouts, are urged to contact York Regional Police.

The Markham Fair, now in its 182nd year, is one of Canada's longest-running community celebrations and is organized entirely by volunteers. The safety and well-being of all animals at the Fair is a top priority, and the Society is reviewing its security protocols to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
